There were 13,434 housing units at an average density of 1,018.5 per square mile (392.8/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 86.1% White, 0.6% African American, 0.04% Native American, 11.7% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.4% some other race, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.
There were 12,642 households, out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were headed by married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.6% were someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57, and the average family size was 3.03. In the village, the population was spread out, with 23.5% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 17.0% from 25 to 44, 32.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.4% who were 65 years of age or older. Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago is a children's museum in Glenview, Illinois that provides a hands-on learning laboratory for children ages birth to 8. It is named for philanthropist Dolores Kohl, daughter of the founder of Kohl’s department stores, who founded the museum through her education foundation in 1985. "On June 29, 1927, the Northbrook Park District was formed with Commissioners Clarence Bartelme, Wallace Clore, J.W. Cooksey, E.D. Landwehr and Herman Meier, President. The first order of business was to appropriate an $1,800 budget for fiscal year 1927. In 1994, the District became the first park district in the United States to be accredited by the National Park and Recreation Association (NPRA) for its management, programming and operational proficiency. Then in 1996, the District received the National Gold Medal Award from NPRA for excellence in park and recreation management."
"The Northbrook History Museum is located in the three-story Northfield Inn at 1776 Walters Avenue, Northbrook, Illinois. The Museum is open every Sunday 2pm to 4pm, except on national holidays. The Museum is also open by appointment. Call 847-498-3404 for an appointment. The Museum is handicapped accessible on the lower two floors. The lower level contains a large meeting room decorated with the Schinleber Photograph Collection and other permanent exhibits. The museum contains rotating exhibits on the main floor. The top floor is a re-created 1890-1910 Shermerville home. The home has a parlor, sewing room, kitchen, dining room, child’s room, bathroom and bedroom. Each room is authentically decorated and furnished with period furniture, fixtures, clothing, toys and artifacts. A video tour of this Shermerville home is also available."
